Ka Wai KONG

Kawai received his BS degree in Mechatronics from the City University of Hong Kong in 2015. He worked as a Research Assistant at CityU after graduation. He is currently pursuing his MS degree. His research interests include transducers, artificial intelligence, robotics, data analysis, and machine learning.

Ho-Yin Chan

Dr. HY Chan received his BS/MS degrees in Mechanical and Automation Engineering from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, and his Ph.D. degree from Michigan State University, USA. After returning to Hong Kong in 2008, he joined ASTRI for 4 years and worked on numerous MEMS sensor and actuator projects including micro-flow sensors and micro-mirrors. Particularly, he worked on designing and manufacturing of a MEMS scanning mirror for pico-projection applications. In 2013, he joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering (formerly the Department of Mechanical and Biomedical EngieeringEngineering), City University of Hong Kong. Currently, he is a Research Assistance Professor and served as deputy-PI/ co-PI for 4 ITF projects. His research interests include Micro/Nano sensors and actuators and biomedical devices.

Yifan LIU

LIU Yifan is a Year 4 Mechanical Engineering undergraduate in City Unversity of Hong Kong. His research interests include motion capture and data analysis.

Wenxiu ZHAO

Zhao Wenxiu received his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Design & Manufacturing and Its Automation from Dalian University of Technology, China, in 2014. He is now studying in the University of Science and Technology of China, and is working towards a Ph. D. degree in the State Key Laboratory of Robotics, Shenyang Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenyang, China. His dissertation work is related to nano/bio imaging and robotics.

Qingyun HUANG

HUANG Qingyun received his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and Automation from Northeastern University at Qinhuangdao in 2014 and Master’s degree in Mechanical Design and Theory from Northeastern University, Shenyang, China, in 2018. He has been pursuing his PhD degree at the City University of Hong Kong since 2018. His research interests include 3D-printing, micro-fabrication and big data analysis.

Yangdong WEN

WEN Yangdong received his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, China, in 2013. He is currently working towards a Ph. D. degree at the State Key Laboratory of Robotics, Shenyang Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenyang, China. His research interests include nano/bio robotics and nano/bio imaging using near-field optics. He is currently an assistant professor at the Southwest Jiaotong University, Chengdu, China.

CHIN Siew Mei is a Year 4 Biomedical Engineering undergraduate in City Unversity of Hong Kong. Her research interests include targeted therapy, 3D gel printing, atomizer and pressure sensor.

LI Pan

Pan LI received B.Eng. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Zhengzhou University in 2012, and Ph.D. degree in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering from University of Chinese Academy of Science (UCAS), Shenyang Institute of Automation (SIA), Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) in 2020. Her research interests include dielectric micro-objects based nano-optics engineering, including optical super-resolution imaging, nanopatterning. She is currently a lecturer at Hohai University, Jiangsu, China.

JIA Boliang (James)

JIA Boliang (James) received his B. Eng. degree in Electronic Engineering (December 2010), M.Sc. degree in Biomedical Engineering (September 2011) from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and Ph.D. degree in Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering (February, 2019) from City University of Hong Kong. His research topic relates to microlens device design and fabrication for super-resolution imaging. Before joining CityU, James has worked in local companies developing Lab-on-a-chip platform for biomolecular detection since 2011.

ZHAO Yuliang
Yuliang ZHAO received his B. Eng. in Mechanical Engineering from Hubei University of Automotive Technology, Huibei, China, in 2005, and then his M. S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University, Shenyang, China. After several years of industrial experience, he joined Prof. Wen J. Li’s group at CityU and explored the determination of single mass parameters using optoelectrokinetics. He received his Ph. D. degree from CityU in September 2016. His current research interests include OEK-based micro/nano fabrication, cell-mass analysis, and cyber physical sensors. He is currently an assistant professor at the Northeastern University at Qinhuangdao, Qinhuangdao, China.

Zhikun ZHAN
ZHAN Zhikun received her Ph.D. degree from Shenyang Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Science, in 2011, under the supervision of Prof. Wen J. Li. Her current research interests are focused on 1) microfluidic chips for biomedical applications; 2) bBio-particles manipulation and control using ODEP technique; 3) fabrication, testing and applications of electronic textile based on CNTs-modified cotton yarn. She joined Prof. Li’s team at CityU as a Postdoctoral Fellow from 2014 to 2015. She is currently an assistant professor at the Northeastern University at Qinhuangdao, Qinhuangdao, China.

LIU Na

Na LIU received her B. Eng. in Automation from Sichuan University, Chengdu, China, in 2010. She received her Ph. D. degree in November 2015, under the supervision of Prof. Wen J. Li, from the Shenyang Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China. Her research interests include OEK-based micro/nano fabrication and cell patterning. She is currently an assistant professor at the Shanghai University, Shanghai, China.

WANG Dong

Dong WANG received his M. Eng. degree in Control Theory and Control Engineering from Shandong University of Science and Technology, Qingdao, China, in 2007. He received his Ph. D. degree in 2015 from the State Key Laboratory of Robotics, Shenyang Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenyang, China, under the guidance of Prof. Wen Jung Li. His research interests include Nano-Positioning and Fast Feedback Control. He is currently an assistant professor at the Shandong Jiaotong University, Shandong, China.

FEI Fei

Fei FEI received his B.E. degree from the Dept. of Automation, University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) in 2004 and M.E. degree from the Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 2007. His M. E. dissertation work was carried out at the Shenyang Institute of Automation, CAS. He then worked as a Software Engineer in NEC System Technologies (Hangzhou) Ltd. from 2007 to 2008. In 2012, after receiving his PhD degree from The Chinese University of Hong Kong under the supervision of Prof. Wen Jung Li, and he worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the MBE Dept. of City University of Hong Kong from 2012 to 2014. Dr. Fei joined Bosch China as a Senior Researcher in 2014, and is currently an assistant professor at the Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Nanjing, China.

LI Longhai

Longhai LI received his B. Eng. degree in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering from Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT), Beijing, China, in 2008. He received his Ph. D. degree in 2015 from the State Key Laboratory of Robotics, Shenyang Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenyang, China, under the guidance of Prof. Wen Jung Li. His research interests include DNA Origami technique and theory analysis of DNA Origami manipulating based on AFM tip. He is currently an assistant professor at the Northeast Agricultural University, Harbin, China.

Kahlen OUYANG

Kahlen joined Prof. Li's previous lab at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), and received her Ph.D. degree in Mechanical & Automation Engineering from CUHK. During her PhD, she was awarded “Global Scholarship Programme for Research Excellence – CNOOC Grants” and conducted research at Stanford University School of Medicine as a visiting scholar. She continued the research path in biomedical engineering at Harvard University and UCLA, and later shifted her focus to supporting commercialization efforts of high impact early stage life science technologies and start-ups.

Arthur L. H. CHAU
Arthur CHAU graduated from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in 2007 with first class honour in Automation and Computer-Aided Engineering. Earlier in 2006, Arthur has joined the Centre for Micro and Nano Systems (CMNS) to complete his final year project on the Coanda flying saucer. He furthered his studies in Mechanical and Automation Engineering (MAE) in CUHK and obtained his M.Phil. degree in 2009. His M.Phil. research thesis focused on enzymatic bioenergy generation system. After his M.Phil. studies, Arthur worked as a research assistant at the Center of Novel Functional Molecules, Department of Chemistry, CUHK, with a focus on surface Plasmon resonance based chemical sensors. Arthur received his Ph.D. in 2014 under the guidance of Prof. Wen Jung Li at CUHK. His research interest mainly lies in optical dielectrophoresis (ODEP). Other focuses include biomedical engineering in MEMS/NEMS-based micro/nano-fluidic systems, micro/nano energy generation systems and SPR sensors. He is currently an inspector of customs and excise for the Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department.

Shelly Shengli ZHOU
Shengli ZHOU received her B. Eng. degree in Mechanical Design, Manufacturing, and Automation from Xidian University (University of Electronic Science and Technology), China, in 2007, and received her M. Eng. degree from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in 2009. From August, 2009 to July, 2010, she worked in Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute Company limited (ASTRI) as software engineer. She received her PhD degree from the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering at CUHK under the supervision of Prof. Wen Jung Li. Her research interests include inertial sensor and vision sensor based gesture recognition, motion tracking, and information fusion. She is currently an associate professor at the Northwestern Polytechnic University, Xi’an, China.

LIANG Wenfeng
Wenfeng LIANG received his B. Eng. degree in Electrical Engineering and Automation from China Jiliang University, Hangzhou, China, in 2008. He received his Ph. D. degree in 2014 from the State Key Laboratory of Robotics, Shenyang Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenyang, China, under the guidance of Prof. Wen Jung Li. His research interests include OEK-based micro/nano manipulation/assembly and cell manipulation. He is currently an assistant professor at the Shenyang Jianzhu University, Shenyang, China, and will be promoted to full professor in 2016.

Pansy Siu Ling LEUNG
Pansy LEUNG obtained her B. Eng. degree in Automation and Computer-Aided Engineering and M.Phil. degree in Mechanical and Automation Engineering from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, HKSAR in 2006 and 2009. Pansy joined CMNS in 2005 for her final year project, working on MEMS-based motion sensors game development, and continued her master’s work under the guidance of Prof. Wen J. Li in designing and fabricating gold nanoparticles based micro/nano sensors. She is currently pursuing her PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Arizona, Arizona, USA. Her current researches focus on developing liposome-based targeted drug delivery nanovesicles and studying their uptake mechanism by cancer cells.

Shue WANG
Shue WANG received her B. S. and M. S. degrees in Computer Science from Liaoning Technical University, China, and then joined Prof. Wen J. Li’s group at the Shenyang Institute of Automation (SIA), Chinese Academy of Sciences, in 2009 as a Ph. D. student. She received her Ph. D. degree from SIA under Prof. Li’s supervision. She has then decided to pursuit further education in the US. In August 2015, she received her Ph. D. degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Arizona, USA, and is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Michigan, USA.

Zhuxin DONG
Zhuxin DONG received his B. Eng. degree in Biomedical Engineering from Shenyang University of Technology in 2005, M. Eng. degree in Mechanical and Automation Engineering from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2007, and PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Arkansas in 2012. He is currently a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences, University of Notre Dame, Indiana, USA. His research interests cover the development of electronic devices with nanomaterials based on micro/nano fabrication techniques and AFM related nanotechnology and applications.

Peng XIAO
Peng XIAO received his Bachelor of Engineering degree from Xi’an Jiaotong University in 2002 and Master of Philosophy degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2008. His research topic was micro bubble generation with micro watt power using carbon nanotube heating elements when he studied in Center for Micro and Nano Systems supervised by Prof. Wen J. Li. He is currently a PhD candidate in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Texas A&M University, Texas, USA. His current research interests include microplasma generation in liquid, microplasma based spectroscopy analysis and biological applications.

Mandy Yi Sin LAI
Mandy Lai Yi Sin received her B.Sc. degree in Physics from the University of Hong Kong in 2000, and her M.Phil. degree (in Physics, 2002) from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in 2002. From 2003 to 2004, she worked in the Centre for Condensed Matter Sciences, National Taiwan University (NTU), and studied the growth kinetics and structure of molecular films on metal surfaces using ultrahigh vacuum scanning tunneling microscope (STM). She joined Prof. Wen J. Li’s group at CUHK in 2004 as a research assistant developing micro/nano sensors for chemical detection based on multi-walled carbon nanotubes. She received her Ph. D. degree from the University of Arizona in 2011 and is currently a postdoctoral fellow in the Medical School of Stanford University.

Guangyi SHI
Guangyi SHI received his B.Eng. and M.Eng. degrees in Mechatronics Engineering from Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing, China, in 2001 and 2004, respectively. He received his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical and Automation Engineering from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong SAR, China, in 2007, under the guidance of Prof. Wen Jung Li. His research interests include MEMS sensor applications, multiple human motions tracking and identification. Dr. Shi has received Best Student Paper Award of 2007 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Biomimetics (ROBIO). He is currently an associate professor at the Peking University, China.

Yanli QU
Yanli QU received her B. Eng. and M. Eng. degrees in Mechanical Manufacturing and Automation from Shenyang University of Technology, Shenyang, China, in 1996 and 1999, respectively, and her Ph. D degree in Mechatronics Engineering from the Shenyang Institute of Automation (SIA), Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenyang, China, in 2002. Dr. QU was a member of CMNS at The Chinese University of Hong Kong from 2006 to 2008 as a postdoc under the guidance of Prof. Wen Jung Li; she worked on CNT-based shear stress flow sensors. She is currently a professor and the Director of Document and Information Center of SIA, CAS, China.

Winnie W. Y. CHOW
Winnie joined CMNS in 2001, when she was working on her final year project. She received her B.Eng. degree in Mechanical and Automation Engineering, M.Phil. and Ph.D. degree in Automation and Computer-Aided Engineering from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), in 2002, 2004, and 2008, respectively. Her Ph.D. dissertation was supervised by Prof. Wen Jung Li. She was a postdoctoral researcher working on the EU Neuroprobes project at Department of Physics in Uppsala University, Sweden, from 2008 to 2010. Her research interests include development of microfluidic systems and CNT shear stress sensors. She is currently with the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute.
Gary C.T. CHOW

Gary C.T. CHOW received his B.Eng. and M.Phil. degrees from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2005 and 2007, respectively. Although he graduated from Dept. Computer Science and Engineering of CUHK, Gary joined CMNS (headed by Prof. Wen Jung Li) and participated in an integrated CMOS-CNT sensor project for his M.Phil. degree under the co-supervision of Prof. Li. In 2007 he was awarded the Croucher Foundation Scholarship to study for a PhD. degree at the Imperial College, London, UK.

Raymond H. W. LAM
Raymond H. W. LAM was a member of Li’s Research Group from 2000 to 2005. He received a B.Eng. degree (2003, with first class honors) and an M.Phil. degree (2005) in Automation and Computer-aided Engineering from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He also received a Ph.D. degree (2010) in Mechanical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, as a Croucher Scholar. He was a postdoc fellow in the Department of Mechanical Engineering in University of Michigan from Sep. 2010 to Aug. 2011. He is now an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering at the City University of Hong Kong.

King W.C. LAI
King W. C. LAI received his B. Eng. degree in Mechanical and Automation Engineering, and M. Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in Automation and Computer-Aided Engineering, all from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He was a member of CMNS from 2000 to 2005 and worked on a micro spotting system and fabrication of novel nano-probes for biotechnology applications. He was a postdoctoral researcher at the Robotics and Automation Laboratory at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Michigan State University, USA. He is currently an assistant professor at the Department of Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering, City University of Hong Kong.

Carmen K.M. FUNG
Carmen K. M. FUNG received her B. Eng. degree in Mechanical and Automation Engineering, and M. Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in Automation and Computer-Aided Engineering, all from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She was a member of CMNS from 2000 to 2005 and worked on MEMS and carbon nanotube based nano sensors. She then worked as a visiting scholar at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and also a R&D consultant in Nano and Advanced Materials Institute Limited. She was a postdoctoral researcher at the Robotics and Automation Laboratory at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Michigan State University, USA. She is currently with the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute.

Thomas K. F. LEI
Thomas KF LEI received his M.Phil. and Ph.D. from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2000 and 2005, respectively. He joined CMNS as a Ph.D. student in 2001 and was working in polymer based microfluidic system for biomedical applications. He was a Lecturer and also an Associate Research Engineer in the Research Institute of Innovative Products & Technologies at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He is currently associate professor at the Chang Gung University, Taiwan.

Rosa CHAN
Rosa CHAN received her undergraduate degree in Automation and Computer-Aided Engineering from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, where she graduated as the Valedictorian of the United College in 2003. She then worked as a research assistant in Professor Wen J. Li’s Center for Micro and Nano Systems and conducted research in the rapid assembly of carbon nanotubes for nanosensing by dielectrophoretic force. Awarded the Croucher Scholarship and Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fellowship for overseas study, she obtained her Ph.D. degree from the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Southern California, USA. She is currently an assistant professor at the Dept. of Electronic Engineering, City University of Hong Kong.

Alan H. F. LAM
Dr. LAM received his B. Eng. and M. Phil. degrees from the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in 1999 and 2001, respectively. He joined CMNS as a Ph.D. student, and obtained his Ph.D. degree from CUHK in August 2004, specializing in systems integration with focus in MEMS sensing systems under the guidance of Prof. Wen Jung Li. He is the co-inventor of VRMS technology. Dr. Lam is one of the founders of Sengital Ltd. and is currently the CEO of Sengital Ltd. He is also an Advisory Board Member and Adjunct Professor of the Department of Electronic Engineering, City University of Hong Kong.

Tak-Sing WONG
Tak-Sing WONG received his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering at UCLA in 2009 under the guidance of Prof. Chih-Ming Ho, and his B.Eng. degree from the Department of Automation and Computer-Aided Engineering (now known as Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering) at The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2003. Tak-Sing was an undergraduate student researcher in Centre for Micro and Nano Systems at CUHK from 2001 to 2003, under the mentorship of Prof. Wen J. Li. Tak-Sing was a Croucher Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow at the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University. He is currently an assistant professor at the Penn State University USA.

Winston SUN
Dr. SUN received his Bsc, MSc, and PhD, all in Mechanical Engineering, from Fresno State University, UC Davis, and CUHK, in 1994, 1996, and 2000, respectively. His PhD dissertation was supervised by Prof. Wen J. Li. In 2001 he was granted from the Croucher Foundation a 2-year Fellowship to conduct Optical MEMS research at SAMLAB of IMT at the University of Neuchatel in Switzerland. He was then employed by the group as a Research Scientist to study the feasibility of a MEMS display project. In late 2004 he was granted from the Japanese government a 2-year JSPS Fellowship to participate in a MEMS-based field emission device at the Toshiyoshi Lab of IIS at the University of Tokyo in Japan. Winston was also employed as a Project Researcher at the Toshiyoshi Lab to participate in a 4-year RF-MEMS research project. He is currently a senior engineer in a high-tech company at the Hong Kong Science Park.

Pak Kin WONG
Pak King was a FYP student at the Advanced Microsystems Laboratory (supervised by Prof. Wen Jung Li) in 1999. After graduating from CUHK, he attended UCLA and received his PhD degree from there in 2005. He is currently a professor at the Penn State University, USA.

Jennifer Wenli ZHOU
Dr. ZHOU received her Ph. D. degree in 2004 from The Chinese University of Hong Kong under the guidance of Prof. Wen Jung Li. Her Ph. D. dissertation work was on the fabrication and control of ionic-conducting polymer underwater micro robotic-grippers. She is currently a professor at the Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Hebei, China.

Julia SJ QIN
Dr. QIN received her Ph. D. degree in 2002 from The Chinese University of Hong Kong under the supervision of Prof. Wen Jung Li. Her Ph. D. dissertation work was on the fabrication of nanoscale channels in 3D quartz cubes using pulsed-laser beams. She is currently a professor at Guizhou University, Guizhou, China, and served as the Dean of College of Science and Technology from 2002 to 2004. She has been serving as the Vice Director of the Science and Technology Department of Guizhou Province since 2004, and as the Vice-Director of the Bureau of Intellectual Properties of Guizhou Province since 2014.

Yilun LUO
Yilun LUO received his M. Phil. degree from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2007 under the supervision of Prof. Wen Jung Li. His dissertation project was related to motion tracking using MEMS-based inertial measurement unit. He received a scholarship to study for this Ph. D. degree at Michigan State University. He is currently a technical staff at Intel Corporation, Texas, USA.

Charlotte KWONG
Charlotte was supervised by Prof. Wen Jung Li for her final year project on the fabrication of a novel probe for “cellular surgery”. She received her B.Eng. degree from the Department of Automation and Computer-Aided Engineering (now known as Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering) at The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2003 and then went to California for advance her technical knowledge. She received her Ph. D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from UCLA in 2010. She is current a member of the technical staff at Intel Corporation, Oregon, USA.
